Hyderabad, Oct. 8: Police arrested four members of an inter-state fake gold gang operating in Parigi and recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash along with fake gold biscuits and tools from their possession.
The accused, all from Palnadu district in Andhra Pradesh, cheated at least two victims in the area by showing them genuine gold and then substituting it with fake items.
According to police, the accused — Nagabushanam, Nagaraju, Shivamma and Nagalakshmi — first targeted a tailor from the Thondapalli area.
They showed him real gold to gain his trust and then sold him fake gold biscuits worth Rs 3 lakh. The victim filed a complaint, police registered a case, arrested the accused and recovered the cash. The gang was then released.
However, on the very next day, a second victim came forward. A businessman from Parigi told police that the gang had promised him genuine gold biscuits worth Rs 7 lakh.
After taking Rs 3 lakh from him, they handed over a piece of brass instead. The businessman said he had been cheated two months earlier but did not report it out of fear of embarrassment.

The second complaint alerted police that the gang may have cheated more people.
Investigators believe several other victims have not come forward due to fear of social embarrassment. Some victims are reportedly reluctant to speak to the media for the same reason.
Police have launched extensive search operations to trace the accused again and are investigating how many more people the gang may have defrauded.
Police issued a public warning asking people not to trust strangers who offer gold at low prices.
They urged anyone who has been cheated to report immediately without fear.
