Hyderabad, Oct 8: Former minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao criticised the Congress government over issues affecting Singareni workers.
He alleged that Singareni workers faced unprecedented difficulties under the present government. He demanded immediate elections for the Singareni recognised union.
Harish Rao also demanded that the government release pending dues payable to Singareni Collieries Company Limited. He alleged that the company’s performance had deteriorated under Congress rule.
He claimed coal production had fallen by 12 million tonnes after the Congress government came to power. Harish Rao demanded that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka explain the alleged decline.
Harish Rao Announces Ramagundam Meeting
Harish Rao said BRS would hold a major public meeting in Ramagundam on October 14. He appealed to Singareni workers to participate in the programme.
He also raised concerns about medical fitness assessments for workers suffering from heart ailments. He alleged that some workers were being declared fit despite serious health problems.

Harish Rao demanded immediate medical boards for such workers. He also sought dependent employment for eligible families without further delay.
He criticised the government over its alleged delay in providing house sites and loans to Singareni workers. He recalled the Congress promise to provide these benefits.
Harish Rao also demanded that workers receive a share of Singareni’s profits. He alleged that reducing dependent employment could facilitate future privatisation efforts.
The BRS leader warned that his party would oppose any move to privatise Singareni. He also demanded that Singareni’s CSR funds be fully utilised for local communities.
Harish Rao’s latest remarks come amid wider BRS criticism of proposed changes involving Telangana’s public sector companies. He recently urged Rahul Gandhi to oppose proposed equity dilution and privatisation involving Singareni and other power utilities.
The Telangana government has separately announced several measures concerning Singareni employees. These include speeding up dependent employment, medical boards and housing-related welfare measures.
Harish Rao’s claims about production decline, government dues and privatisation remain political allegations. The government or Singareni management has not been cited here as accepting those allegations.
