As assured by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, each and every family in Hyderabad would get free drinking water of 20,000 litres per month from January, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao directing the concerned authorities to take up all the necessary arrangements to begin the programme.
The minister on Saturday held a review meeting with state chief secretary Somesh Kumar and the officials of HMWSSB at Pragati Bhavan and discussed on the plan. He asked the officials to prepare a draft plan on the total tap connections, arrangements for the water supply. The minister also ordered them to finish all the arrangments for free drinking water supply within two weeks.

KT Rama Rao said that the people do not need to pay for the 20,000 litres of water and also asked the HMWSSB officials to take up the measures to provide water supply to all the households. “For the last few years, the need for drinking water has been rising. The government’s focus on providing basic amenities to the people in the last five years helped to meet the public demand for water,” he said.
Meanwhile, the officials also said that a plan is being prepared to avoid the scarcity of water next summer.
