Free entry for women at all monuments this Women’s Day

Hyderabad, March. 01: Women visitors, both foreign and Indian, will be allowed free entry to all monuments maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) said in an order.

“In an office exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 6 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959, the Director-General, Archaeological Survey of India has directed that no fee shall be charged from women visitors (both domestic and foreign) at all ticketed Centrally protected monuments / Archaeological Sites & Remains specified in the Second Schedule of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules,” read the press release from the department.

Monuments, including Golconda Fort and Charminar in Hyderabad, would be free for all women visitors, domestic or foreign. The decision was taken in keeping with India’s tradition of “giving respect to women”.

There are 3,691 monuments protected by the Union government under the ASI.
