To this extent, Benhur Maheshdutt, Chief Secretary to the Department of Mines issued orders to the Collectors of all the districts. He clarified that the Telangana Sand Mining  Regulations – 2015 should be implemented. People have the facility to take sand from nearby streams free of charge for building their own houses and government housing schemes. However, this facility is not being implemented in Nalgonda and other districts; the sand taxi (Mana Sand Vehicle) policy is in force. Police, revenue and mining officials are stopping and imposing fines if people are taking sand in dump trucks and tractors for their own needs.

The state government received complaints on this matter and took a recent decision in response. It said that local people can take sand from rivers, tributaries and streams in rural areas without paying scenery fees. It has been made clear to the collectors that action can be taken if any rules are violated.  (Maxim News)
