Hyderabad, August 24: Cyberabad police detained the owner of a G+6 building after its collapse in Gachibowli’s Anjaiah Nagar killed two workers.
Police identified the owner as Syed Sajid. Officers took him into custody at Shamshabad Airport on Monday. Police said he was allegedly attempting to leave the country.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the under construction building suddenly collapsed. Several workers became trapped under the debris after the structure came down.
Two tile workers from Madhya Pradesh died in the incident. Police identified the deceased as Umesh Khare and Mohpal Bhalavi. Officials completed postmortems and handed the bodies to their families.
Police alleged that Sajid constructed the G+6 building without obtaining the required municipal permissions. Investigators are now examining the construction process and the circumstances that led to the collapse.

The Gachibowli building collapse has prompted police to examine the approvals, construction materials and people involved in the project. Investigators will question Sajid to establish the sequence of events.

Meanwhile, the police investigation remains underway. Officers are expected to examine whether the structure complied with municipal requirements and construction norms.
The collapse has again raised concerns about unauthorised construction and worker safety in rapidly developing areas around Hyderabad. Gachibowli has seen extensive construction activity due to its residential and commercial growth.
Earlier incidents in the city have also highlighted risks linked to illegal or unsafe structures. Authorities have faced pressure to identify unauthorised buildings and take enforcement action where violations occur.
In this case, police are focusing on the alleged absence of municipal permissions. They will also examine the materials used and the roles of the owner, contractor and other persons connected with the project.
The detention of the owner marks a key development in the investigation. However, police have not yet disclosed the full charges or further legal action against the accused.
