The Gadchiroli encounter in Maharashtra has once again drawn attention to the ongoing conflict in the region. Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces, according to information released on Thursday. The incident took place in Bhangarh taluka of Gadchiroli district after an exchange of fire that continued for several hours.
The bodies of three Maoists, including two women, were recovered from the encounter site. Officials confirmed that the firing began earlier on Thursday and continued as security forces combed the area. Later, the operation led to the recovery of the Maoists’ bodies, along with weapons found at the spot.
Meanwhile, police said they recovered an AK 47 rifle and other weapons from the encounter site. These recoveries point to the armed presence of Maoists in the area. Security forces secured the location and continued search operations to ensure that no other armed members remained nearby. Therefore, the area remains under close watch.
However, the encounter also resulted in the death of a police constable. Deepak Madhavi, a C60 commando, lost his life during the gunfight with the Maoists. Officials said he was seriously injured in the exchange of fire. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Gadchiroli for treatment. Despite efforts by medical teams, he did not survive.
Later, police stated that search operations are still underway in the surrounding forest areas. Security forces continue to scan the region to prevent any further incidents. The Gadchiroli encounter highlights the risks faced by personnel during such operations, while also underlining the continued presence of Maoist activity in the district.
The situation remains tense, and authorities have not released further details. Meanwhile, security forces are maintaining vigilance as operations continue in Gadchiroli following the deadly encounter reported on February 6.
