Gang Stealing Diesel, Batteries From Jio Towers Busted
- Siddipet police arrest five from inter-district theft network
- Recovered items include 18 batteries, Rs 3.01 lakh cash, and vehicles
Siddipet/Hyderabad, Nov 3 (Maxim News): The Siddipet police have arrested five members of an inter-district gang accused of stealing diesel and batteries from Jio mobile towers across Telangana. The operation led to the recovery of stolen property including 18 batteries, Rs 3.01 lakh in cash, two four-wheelers, an auto-rickshaw, and a motorcycle. Police said that the gang had been operating across districts, targeting telecom infrastructure for several months.
The arrested have been identified as Bathula Guru Swamy, Bathula Sairam, Alakunta Laxman Rao, Alakunta Shankar, and Bathula Sinu. Six others involved in the thefts — Bandari Srinivas, Putta Anjaneyulu, Shilasagaram Ramachandram, Nune Mahendar, Md Hazeem, and Jogi Yadi — are still absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.
Commissioner of Police SM Vijay Kumar stated that the accused carried out thefts at multiple Jio tower sites across Telangana, stealing a total of 28 heavy-duty batteries and 4,899 litres of diesel. The gang reportedly resold the stolen items for profit, accumulating several lakhs of rupees. Vijay Kumar said, “The accused had earlier been involved in similar thefts of vehicle batteries and continued their criminal activity by targeting mobile tower installations.”
He explained that the investigation began after a complaint was filed at Thoguta Police Station. Acting on credible information, police officials conducted a detailed probe and tracked the suspects involved in the organized theft ring. The swift action of the Siddipet district police led to the breakthrough, successfully dismantling a network that had been causing repeated losses to telecom service operators.
The Commissioner also appreciated the investigating teams for their coordinated effort and urged company officials to enhance security and surveillance at tower sites to prevent future incidents. The arrested individuals have been remanded in judicial custody while police continue their search for the remaining suspects. (Maxim News)
