Giriraj Singh Begins Japan Visit, Boosts Investment Ties in Textile Sector
Tokyo/Hyderabad, July 15 (Maxim News): Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh has kicked off his official visit to Japan with a strong focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the textile sector and promoting India as a global hub for textile manufacturing and innovation.
Beginning his tour on July 14, 2025, the Minister paid floral tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Tokyo, reaffirming Gandhiji’s timeless values of truth, non-violence, and compassion as guiding principles for global partnerships.
Strengthening India-Japan Textile Collaboration
At the Embassy of India in Tokyo, Shri Giriraj Singh chaired a strategic briefing led by Ambassador Shri Sibi George, which highlighted the growing synergies between India and Japan, particularly in the textile and apparel sectors.
One of the key engagements was a high-level meeting with Mr. Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and CEO of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., parent company of Uniqlo. Discussions focused on expanding sourcing, manufacturing, and retail investments in India, leveraging the country’s growing production capacity and skilled workforce.
Major Announcements by Japanese Industry Leaders
In a significant development, Shri Giriraj Singh met the leadership of Daiso Industries, a globally recognized retail chain. The company announced its plans to open 200 stores in India and begin manufacturing cotton products locally. The Minister welcomed the move and encouraged the company to take full advantage of India’s robust textile ecosystem and government incentives.
He also met with executives from Stylem Co. Ltd., a prominent textile trading and OEM company, inviting them to scale up operations in India through the PM MITRA Parks and other flagship initiatives aimed at modernizing the textile value chain.
Roundtable with Japanese Textile Leaders
To cap off the day, Shri Giriraj Singh chaired a CEO roundtable with top executives from Japan’s textile and apparel industries. He encouraged investment in technical textiles, fiber production, and textile machinery, emphasizing the benefits of the Indian market, including a young talent pool, integrated supply chains, and supportive policies.
Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Shri Rohit Kansal, presented key policy initiatives and the vast investment potential in India, while Ambassador Sibi George set the tone with opening remarks that underlined the strategic importance of the India-Japan partnership.
