Hyderabad, August 2: After witnessing a sharp rise over the past month, chicken and egg prices have started declining across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, offering relief to households and non-vegetarian consumers.
Retail traders attribute the fall in prices to improved poultry production and changing market demand.
The price of skinless chicken, which had climbed to Rs. 300–330 per kg until two weeks ago, has now dropped to Rs. 250–280 per kg in most markets.
Similarly, the retail price of an egg has fallen from Rs. 8–9 to Rs. 6–7 apiece.
According to poultry traders, production has improved following better weather conditions, while demand has moderated after the recent festive and wedding season, resulting in a decline in prices.
Current chicken prices in key markets
Across Telangana, Warangal is recording the lowest price, with skinless chicken selling at Rs. 250 per kg. In Hyderabad and Kamareddy, the price is around Rs. 270 per kg, while consumers in Nizamabad and Khammam are paying about Rs. 280 per kg.
In Andhra Pradesh, chicken is being sold at Rs. 260 per kg in Kadapa and Markapuram, while the price in Guntur is around Rs. 280 per kg.
Consumers, who had been struggling with high prices of chicken and eggs over the past several weeks, have welcomed the price correction, saying it has eased household budgets.
Industry representatives said prices may remain stable if production continues to improve and supply remains sufficient to meet demand.
