Meanwhile, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy revealed that rice distribution will be done in all ration shops in the state from Ugadi onwards. He said that the government is committed to implementing every promise made. He said that efforts are being made to start rice distribution through ration shops in Mattampally itself under the leadership of CM Revanth Reddy. He said that steps have been taken to select a place for this and all the details will be officially announced soon.

The Congress government is taking steps towards making a historic decision for the poor and lower middle-class sections of the state. It has announced that every person with food security cards in the state will be provided with fine rice from Ugadi onwards. Each person will be given 6 kg depending on the number of people in the family. However, the paddy rice being distributed at present is not fit for consumption. About 85 percent of the ration card holders are selling that rice in the open market at Rs. 10 per kg and buying fine rice. The middlemen are making huge profits by polishing that rice further and converting it into fine rice.

The government hopes that if ration card holders are given fine rice instead of regular rice, 100 percent of them will use it for food. It has been thought that if it is also given free of cost, it will not only be beneficial for the poor but also bring a good name to the government. It is expected that with this decision, the prices of fine rice in the open market will also come down. The government has decided to distribute only super fine rice harvested during the current monsoon season in ration shops.
