Nizamabad, August 25: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said young people have a key role in building a drug free society.
He urged students to stay away from drugs and focus on education and sports. He said youth must protect their health and build a strong future.
The Governor made the remarks during an interaction with students on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in Nizamabad district on Tuesday.
He said the campaign, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is developing into a public movement against drug abuse.
Shukla also urged parents and teachers to closely monitor changes in children’s behaviour. He said early attention can help identify problems linked to substance use.
Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign seeks stronger youth participation
The Governor called on every section of society to participate in efforts to build a drug free India. He said young people can play a major role by making healthy choices and encouraging their peers to avoid addictive substances.
Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind said drug use has increased among sections of today’s youth. He said substance abuse damages health and can also affect families.
Arvind urged young people not to become dependent on drugs. He described substance abuse as a threat to their future and called for greater awareness among students.
He also urged the Telangana government to strengthen measures aimed at making the state free from drugs.
The programme brought together students, elected representatives and senior district officials to discuss drug prevention and youth awareness.
MP Arvind, MLAs Suryanarayana and Rakesh Reddy, District Collector Bhavesh Mishra and Police Commissioner Sai Chaitanya attended the event.
The interaction focused on the need for sustained awareness among students. It also highlighted the role of families, educational institutions and public authorities in preventing substance abuse.
The Governor’s appeal comes amid wider efforts to promote the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan across the country. The campaign seeks to increase awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage communities to support prevention efforts.
Officials and public representatives have called for collective action. They said schools, colleges, families and local communities can help young people make informed choices and stay away from addictive substances.
