Graduate MLC Elections | Hyderabad, Sept. 30: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has questioned the Congress’ candidate selection for the upcoming Graduate MLC Elections in Telangana, after the party fielded two leaders from the Reddy community.
Kavitha reacted to the Congress decision to nominate Sama Rammohan Reddy from the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy from the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduates’ constituency.
“Two Graduate MLC seats and tickets for Reddy leaders in both places. Is this not social injustice?” Kavitha asked in a social media post.
She questioned whether the decision provided adequate representation to different social sections. Kavitha said political parties have a responsibility to ensure representation for various communities in a democracy.
The Congress announced the two candidates after approval from party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Sama Rammohan Reddy has served in the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s media and communications wing.
Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy is the son of former minister and senior Congress leader Ramreddy Damodar Reddy. The party had considered several names before finalising its candidates for the two constituencies.
Graduate MLC Elections Trigger Representation Debate
The Graduate MLC Elections in Telangana have now drawn attention to the issue of social representation following Kavitha’s remarks.
The voter enrolment process for the two Graduate MLC constituencies began on September 28. The qualifying date for the electoral rolls is November 1, 2026, while the final rolls are scheduled to be published on December 30.
The terms of the sitting members in the two constituencies are scheduled to end in March 2027. The upcoming elections will therefore determine the next representatives of the graduate constituencies.
Kavitha’s comments have added a social representation angle to the political discussion surrounding the Graduate MLC Elections, while the Congress’ candidate selection has set the stage for the contest in the two constituencies.
