Heatwave Deaths Rise In Telugu States

Hyderabad, May 26: Severe heatwave conditions continue to grip the Telugu States, with rising temperatures and strong hot winds claiming lives across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to unofficial reports, 77 people died due to heatstroke in both States on Monday alone.

Of the total deaths, 52 were reported in Telangana, while Andhra Pradesh recorded 25 fatalities. Field-level reports further indicate that nearly 200 to 300 people may have died due to heatstroke-related complications in the past one week across the two States.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures are likely to remain dangerously high over the next few days. Several districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh continue to record temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius, triggering serious health concerns.

Authorities said severe heatwave conditions and dry winds are increasing the risk of dehydration and heatstroke, especially among daily wage workers, elderly citizens, children, and people with existing health conditions.

Heatwave Conditions Continue to Worsen

Disaster management departments in both States issued fresh advisories asking people to remain indoors during peak afternoon hours. Officials warned that the period between 11 am and 4 pm remains extremely dangerous due to intense heat exposure.

Health department officials advised people to consume sufficient water, buttermilk, ORS solutions, and other fluids regularly to prevent dehydration. Citizens were also asked to avoid direct sunlight and wear light cotton clothing while stepping outside.

Medical experts said heatstroke symptoms include dizziness, vomiting, headache, high body temperature, breathing difficulty, and unconsciousness. Hospitals across several districts have been instructed to remain alert and keep emergency treatment facilities ready for heatstroke victims.

Earlier, the IMD issued red alerts for several districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as temperatures crossed normal levels significantly. District administrations have also started awareness campaigns and arranged drinking water facilities at public places.

Officials stated that emergency teams are monitoring the situation continuously as the prolonged heatwave shows no signs of easing immediately.
