Hyderabad, August 31 (Maxim News): Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh has criticised former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over his claim on the Veligonda project.
Jagan said the completion of the twin tunnels under his government gave him immense satisfaction. He said the project fulfilled his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s dream.
Jagan also said Krishna water now flows through the tunnels. He shared the remarks on X while referring to the project’s progress during his tenure.
Lokesh responded to Jagan’s post on the same platform. He questioned Jagan’s claim that his government deserves credit for the Veligonda project.
Lokesh said Jagan had inaugurated the project in 2024 when it had no water. He described the inauguration as an example of what he called a “fake inauguration”.
The minister also took a sarcastic swipe at the former chief minister. He said such inaugurations were possible only under the YSR Congress Party government.
Veligonda Credit War Intensifies Between YSRCP and TDP
The exchange has renewed the political dispute over credit for the Veligonda project. YSRCP leaders have claimed that their government completed major works during its tenure.
The party has also accused the TDP led alliance government of taking credit for works completed under the previous administration.
Alliance leaders have rejected that claim. They have instead accused Jagan of taking credit for works carried out after the change of government.
The dispute therefore centres on which government should receive political credit for the project’s execution and commissioning.
Meanwhile, Lokesh visited Gambheeram in Visakhapatnam district on Monday. During the visit, he offered prayers at the Sri Radha Madhana Mohan Swamy temple.
He also inspected the modern kitchen operated by the Akshaya Patra Foundation. Later, he performed the foundation stone ceremony for the construction of a Venkateswara Swamy temple.
Lokesh also inaugurated the new campus of Prema Vidyalayam. He further opened buildings associated with the Sneha Sandhya Age Care Foundation.
The latest exchange adds another political dimension to the continuing debate over major irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh. Both sides continue to claim credit for development works undertaken during their respective periods in office.
