Heavy Rain | Hyderabad, Sept 13: A spell of torrential rain lashed Tolichowki and Shaikpet on Friday evening, with 94 mm of rainfall recorded in just 90 minutes.

The sudden downpour left several areas under water, disrupting traffic and making it difficult for residents to move around.

Stretches of busy roads in Tolichowki were quickly submerged, with vehicles stranded in knee-deep water. Commuters reported long delays as the rain battered the area, and several homes in low-lying areas faced water seepage.

AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin swung into action along Corporators Mohammed Naseeruddin, Haroon Farhaan, and others soon after reports of flooding reached him.

He coordinated with officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HYDRAA), ensuring that field teams were on the ground to clear major waterlogged points.

Officials confirmed that continuous monitoring will continue through the night to prevent further inconvenience.

Residents of Tolichowki and Shaikpet acknowledged the quick response and thanked the MLA and civic staff for acting promptly.

By late night, major stretches that had been inundated were cleared, bringing some relief to commuters returning home.

Friday’s rain once again underscored Hyderabad’s recurring challenge of urban flooding.

While the immediate response helped ease the crisis, the downpour has revived concerns over the city’s drainage infrastructure and its ability to cope with extreme weather events.
