Hyderabad, June 3: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert for Telangana, forecasting moderate to heavy rains across several parts of the state on Wednesday and Thursday. Authorities have advised residents and farmers to remain cautious as thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also expected.
According to the weather department, the impact of the rainfall is likely to be significant in northern, eastern and southern Telangana districts. An Orange Alert has been issued for 18 districts where heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places.
The districts placed under the Orange Alert include Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanamkonda.
The IMD warned that several of these districts could witness strong thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds during the forecast period. Officials said localized heavy downpours may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disruptions in transportation.

Residents have been advised to avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms and to take necessary precautions while travelling.
The weather department stated that conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon, which is expected to reach the coasts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, several districts in Telangana recorded substantial rainfall on Tuesday. Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem experienced heavy showers through the night, bringing relief from the recent heatwave conditions.
Officials have advised farmers to safeguard harvested produce and agricultural equipment, while the public has been urged to stay updated with weather advisories issued by local authorities.
