Hyderabad, March 27: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, attended the valedictory function of the 21st Higher Defence Management Course at the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad. The event marked the completion of the prestigious 44 week training programme. The course began on May 26, 2025 and ended on March 26, 2026.
The Higher Defence Management Course trained 155 officers. These officers came from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. In addition, 12 officers from friendly foreign nations also took part. The programme focused on defence management, strategic leadership and multi domain operations. It aimed to build leadership skills for complex defence roles.
Major General G Srinivas, Commandant of the College of Defence Management, began the ceremony by presenting the Course Report. He highlighted the achievements of the participants. He also spoke about their efforts to combine modern management practices with military strategy. The course followed the motto “Victory Through Excellence.”
Higher Defence Management Course builds strategic leadership
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh later presented the Awards of Excellence to top performers. He recognised their performance and contributions during the programme. During his address, he congratulated the officers for completing the demanding course. He also praised their commitment to improving strategic thinking and leadership skills.
He also highlighted the importance of resource optimisation. He noted the value of inter service cooperation. He stressed that such skills are important for India’s defence preparedness. He referred to the need for readiness in a volatile geopolitical environment.
The Chief Guest also interacted with officers from friendly foreign countries. This interaction highlighted India’s strategic ties with partner nations. It also reflected the benefits of sharing defence knowledge. Later, he also met the families of the course participants. He congratulated them during the interaction.
The event highlighted the role of the College of Defence Management as a tri service institution under HQ Integrated Defence Staff. The institution focuses on building strategic leaders. It prepares officers for higher defence management roles in both war and peace situations. The college combines management methods with operational knowledge.

Through structured training, the institution helps senior officers improve coordination. It also supports better resource management for national security. The programme also prepares officers to deal with complex security challenges of the 21st century.
