- Hindu man killed in Narsingdi hours after Jessore shooting
- Hindu businessman killing raises concern in Bangladesh
A Hindu man was killed in Bangladesh’s Narsingdi city after unidentified attackers struck him with a sharp weapon. The victim was a 40 year old grocery shop owner. The incident has added to growing concern following similar attacks reported in recent weeks.
According to a local media report, the murder took place on Monday night at Charsindhur Bazar in Palash Upazila. The victim was identified as Moni Chakraborty. He had been running a grocery shop at the bazar for a long time. The attack occurred around 11 pm, as reported by the media. The killing happened only hours after another Hindu businessman was shot dead in the head by unidentified men in the Jessore district.
Meanwhile, police confirmed the identity of the victim and shared family details. Palash Police Station chief Shahed Al Mamun said Moni Chakraborty was the son of Madan Thakur. His family belongs to Sadharchar Union in Shibpur Upazila. Police officials stated that Moni was well known in the local market area due to his long standing business.
Later, police and local residents described the sequence of events leading to the murder. They said Moni was returning home after closing his shop on Monday night. At that time, unidentified attackers struck him with a sharp, locally made weapon. He collapsed at the spot following the attack. The report stated that the assailants fled after the incident, leaving the victim critically injured.
However, Moni could not survive the injuries. His death marked the third killing of a Hindu businessman in recent weeks. This pattern has drawn attention as the incidents occurred within a short span of time and in different parts of Bangladesh. The latest killing in Narsingdi has therefore intensified concerns among local communities.
Police have begun looking into the circumstances surrounding the murder. They are examining possible motives and trying to identify those responsible. Meanwhile, the back to back incidents have caused fear and sadness among residents and traders in the area. The killing of a grocery shop owner in a busy market location has further shocked locals.
Then, the focus shifted to security concerns following the Jessore and Narsingdi incidents on the same night. Both cases involved unidentified attackers. The police continue to investigate the murders as the deaths of Hindu businessmen in recent weeks remain a serious concern.
