- Rajasthan Police arrest Air Force employee in spying case
- Air Force Spy shared sensitive defence details for money
Hyderabad: An Air Force spy case has emerged after Rajasthan Police arrested an Indian Air Force employee for allegedly passing sensitive information to Pakistan. The arrest followed an investigation that revealed links between the accused and Pakistani handlers.
According to police, the case came to light during the questioning of another accused. In January, police took a man named Jabara Ram from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan into custody. During interrogation, investigators uncovered details that led them to the Air Force employee.
Air Force Spy linked to Pakistani intelligence since 2023
The accused has been identified as Sumit Kumar, aged 36, from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. He works in the multi-tasking department at the Chabua Air Force Station in Assam. Investigators found that he had links with Pakistani intelligence agencies and had been in contact with them since 2023.
Police said the Air Force spy shared key information related to fighter jets, missile systems, and Air Force personnel. He allegedly sent this information through social media platforms. In return, he received money from Pakistani handlers. Therefore, investigators believe the data leak compromised sensitive defence details.
Officials also said that Sumit Kumar used his position to access and share important information. Meanwhile, authorities are examining the extent of the damage caused by these leaks. The investigation continues to identify any further connections or networks involved in the case.
Case registered under Official Secrets Act and BNS
The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act-1923 and BNS-2023. Authorities confirmed that Rajasthan Intelligence and Air Force Intelligence jointly carried out the operation to arrest him.
Meanwhile, officials said further investigation is underway to gather more evidence. They are also working to trace the full scope of the information shared. The case highlights concerns over internal security and data protection within defence establishments.
Therefore, authorities have intensified scrutiny of communication channels and personnel access. The ongoing probe aims to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure stricter monitoring of sensitive information.
