Hyderabad, Oct. 13: Hyderabad and Miyoshi in Japan’s Hiroshima Prefecture have renewed their sister city partnership ahead of its 20th anniversary in July 2026. The agreement reaffirms ties first established on July 27, 2006, and outlines cooperation in skills, tourism, culture and sports.
The declaration was signed on October 13 by Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Special Officer for the Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporations, and Satoshi Fukuoka, Mayor of Miyoshi.
The three municipal corporations are working together as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA). The signing ceremony was attended by GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, CMC Commissioner Srijana, MMC Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy and GHMC Additional Commissioner (Finance) Radhika Gupta.
Representatives of the Hiroshima Prefectural Government also attended, including Vice Governor Toru Youhimatsu, Kazuo Ichikawa, Hiroyoshi Funaishi and Yoshihiro Harazono.
Partnership Focuses on Skills and Cultural Exchange
Under the renewed declaration, HMA and Miyoshi will prioritise skill mobility and cooperation in tourism, culture and sports.

Both sides will identify and develop specific projects through consultation and mutual agreement. They will review the priority areas and activities every five years, with any changes recorded through a written addendum.
The original 2006 declaration will remain in force. However, the new declaration will take precedence wherever the two agreements differ.
The partnership aims to support industrial, economic, educational and cultural development in both regions. It is also intended to strengthen people-to-people ties between Hyderabad and Miyoshi and deepen relations between India and Japan.
