GHMC officials have accelerated preparations to ensure a smooth launch of the scheme, which will initially focus on morning tiffin services. The initiative is part of the Telangana government’s broader effort to provide affordable and nutritious meals to the underprivileged in urban areas.

New Canteen Model Rolled Out

The Indiramma Canteens are being upgraded with a new design model, available in 40×10 ft and 20×10 ft sizes, depending on the space available at each location. The first revamped canteen has already been completed at the Khairatabad Mint Compound, setting the tone for others to follow.

Each revamped canteen will feature the GHMC logo, alongside photographs of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and images of meals being served. Work at the GHMC headquarters canteen has reportedly reached its final stage of completion.

Affordable Breakfast Menu

The breakfast menu will include idli, upma, pongal, and puri, all made using nutritious cereals. Meals will be served six days a week, with Sunday being a holiday. Each breakfast will cost ₹19, of which beneficiaries will pay only ₹5, while the remaining ₹14 subsidy will be borne by GHMC and paid to the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation, which manages the kitchen operations.

Previously, 150 Indiramma lunch centers were established—one in each GHMC division. Currently, 128 centers are operational, and this breakfast initiative will expand the existing public meal program to cover the morning hours as well.

This move is expected to ease the daily burden on low-income families, especially labourers, street vendors, and the homeless, while enhancing access to hygienic and filling meals in the city.
