Hyderabad: Man who forged Govt order on wineshops opening arrested

A collection boy working with a finance company was arrested by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police for circulating a fake government order (GO) concerning the opening of wine shops in the State during the lockdown. The fake order went viral on social media and had crowds starting to gather at liquor outlets. According to the police, Sunny, a resident of Uppal, saw on Twitter a fake GO that said the wine shops in the State will be opened for restricted hours during the lockdown.

“Sunny downloaded the fake document from Twitter and posted in a WhatsApp group of his close friends. The friends later shared the document in other groups and soon it went viral,” said KVM Prasad, ACP Cyber Crime.

The police later registered a case against unknown persons. During the investigation, they came to know the message originated from a WhatsApp group and identified Sunny as the person who posted it and caught him on Monday.

“We have seized his phone, and forensic experts are on the job to find out if he had prepared the fake GO or downloaded it from Twitter as claimed by him,” the official said.
