Hyderabad Nights Turn Hot As Heatwave Continues Across Telangana

Hyderabad: The ongoing heatwave in Telangana is intensifying discomfort for people as temperatures continue to remain unusually high even after sunset, especially in urban centres like Hyderabad and Warangal.

For the past several days, residents have been facing extreme daytime heat along with warmer nights, leaving little opportunity for the body to recover from prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, daytime temperatures in Hyderabad have consistently remained around 40 degrees Celsius, while minimum night temperatures are hovering 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal levels.

The IMD data showed Hyderabad recorded a minimum temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius, nearly 2 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. Similar conditions are being witnessed in Warangal, where night temperatures are also staying more than 2 degrees Celsius above normal.

Meteorologists warned that elevated night temperatures significantly increase biological heat stress and can trigger continuous heat exhaustion, particularly among children, elderly people and those with chronic illnesses.

Under such conditions, people who are exposed to daytime temperatures ranging from 41 degrees Celsius to 44 degrees Celsius are unable to cool down during the night, increasing the risk of dehydration, fatigue and heat-related illnesses.

Warangal May Witness More Severe Conditions

The situation is expected to become tougher in Warangal over the next two to three days. Weather forecasts indicate daytime temperatures could touch 44 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures may remain between 31 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius without any significant relief.

The Telangana State Heatwave Action Plan 2026 has identified warmer nights as a major factor worsening heatwave conditions across the State. Officials said persistently high minimum temperatures increase health risks and intensify the impact of extreme summer conditions.

According to IMD Hyderabad data, the highest maximum temperatures recorded across Telangana included Adilabad at 44.3 degrees Celsius, Nizamabad at 43.6 degrees Celsius and Medak at 42.6 degrees Celsius.

In Hyderabad, Rajendranagar recorded 40.1 degrees Celsius, while Hakimpet touched 39.8 degrees Celsius. Begumpet Airport and Hayathnagar also recorded temperatures close to 39 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS) data showed even higher temperatures at some locations. Bheemgal in Nizamabad district recorded 45.7 degrees Celsius, while Dasturabad in Nirmal district registered 45.3 degrees Celsius.

In the Greater Hyderabad region, Nampally recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius and Quthbullapur touched 42 degrees Celsius.

Health officials have advised people to avoid outdoor exposure during afternoon hours, consume adequate fluids and remain indoors as much as possible during the ongoing heatwave conditions.
