Hyderabad Police Arrest Three Cyber Fraudsters for Rs. 48.38 Lakh Snapchat Scam

Hyderabad: What started as a casual conversation with a stranger on Snapchat, ended up in a woman losing Rs. 48.38 lakh and slipping into depression.

The Cybercrime unit of Hyderabad police arrested three persons who allegedly cheated and extorted Rs. 48.38 lakh from a woman.  The arrested are Aman Joshi, a resident of Ramkoti, Prashanth Biradar, a resident of Shahinyathgunj, and Rohit Sharma of Panduranga Nagar. 

The victim came in contact with Aman through Snapchat and they used to keep in touch for long hours.  During one of their interactions, Aman asked her for Rs. 15,000 which she transferred to him.  On realizing the woman was affluent, Aman planned to extort money from her and sought help from his friends – Prashanth and Rohit.

“Rohit called up the victim woman posing as a police official and threatened her arrest for her links with Aman.  They told her that Aman was into gold smuggling and had already been arrested.  On some or the other pretext. Prashanth and Rohit extorted gold and cash total valued at Rs. 48.38 lakh. said DCP Cybercrimes Dara Kavitha.  (Maxim News)
