Hyderabad, July 24 (Maxim News): The Hyderabad Traffic Police has intensified its enforcement drive against vehicles using fake, tampered, or unauthorized registration number plates following a surge in citizen complaints.
During the past week, police registered six criminal cases and seized multiple vehicles involved in violations across the city.
The special enforcement drive targets vehicles using fraudulent registration plates to conceal their identity, evade traffic enforcement, and violate provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws.
Police registered criminal cases in the jurisdictions of Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begumbazar, Abids, and Kachiguda police stations.
Authorities said the action forms part of an ongoing citywide campaign to identify and prosecute offenders.
Officials stated that vehicles with fake or tampered registration plates pose a serious challenge to traffic enforcement and crime detection.
Therefore, the department has strengthened inspections and surveillance across Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that only government-approved High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally valid.
Custom-designed plates, altered number formats, missing digits, decorative fonts, or temporary stickers are illegal and attract strict legal action.
The department warned vehicle owners against making any modifications to registration plates, stating that such violations could lead to criminal prosecution in addition to traffic penalties.
Police announced a zero tolerance policy against fraudulent vehicle registration practices.
Authorities cautioned that anyone found using fake or manipulated registration plates will face criminal charges, and the vehicle will be seized immediately.
The Traffic Police urged all motorists to comply with prescribed registration plate norms and traffic regulations.
Officials said the special enforcement drives will continue across Hyderabad to improve road safety, strengthen law enforcement, and support crime prevention efforts.
The department also appealed to citizens to report suspicious vehicles or registration plate violations to help ensure safer roads and effective enforcement.
