New Delhi, July 24: The Union Cabinet has approved a draft Bill proposing stringent penalties for those involved in examination paper leaks, including up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹10 crore. The move comes amid nationwide protests over the alleged NEET UG paper leak.
According to the proposal, special measures will be introduced to ensure speedy trials and strengthen the integrity of the examination system.
The draft legislation proposes the establishment of fast track courts to dispose of paper leak cases within three months.
The government said the objective is to ensure swift justice, enhance transparency and restore public confidence in the conduct of competitive examinations.
Under the proposed law, individuals found guilty of leaking examination papers or participating in organised paper leak rackets could face:
- Up to 10 years’ imprisonment
- A fine of up to ₹10 crore
The proposed legislation is intended to deter organised examination fraud and strengthen safeguards for students appearing in competitive examinations.
Bill Likely to Be Introduced in Parliament
The draft Bill comes amid continuing protests over the alleged NEET UG paper leak, with student organisations demanding greater accountability and comprehensive examination reforms.
The Central government has reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against those responsible for compromising the integrity of public examinations and safeguarding students’ interests.
According to the report, the Bill is expected to be introduced in Parliament next week.
