Hyderabad Police Identify 49 Foreigners Overstaying Visas, Deport 12

Hyderabad, Oct. 4: Hyderabad Police have identified 49 foreign nationals allegedly overstaying or violating visa conditions during a special verification drive conducted with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). Authorities have deported 12 of them, while proceedings against the remaining 37 are underway.

The joint operation began on August 31 and involved the Special Branch’s Foreigners Monitoring Cell, FRRO, local law and order police and the Hyderabad Police IT Cell. Officials said the drive aims to verify immigration documents, enforce visa conditions and prevent unlawful activities.

According to the police, the identified foreign nationals were found across several parts of Hyderabad. Tolichowki accounted for the highest number, with 30 cases. Langar House and Mehdipatnam recorded six each, followed by Rajendranagar with three and Banjara Hills with two. Saifabad and Gudimalkapur reported one case each.

Hyderabad Police Uncover Drug and Fraud Allegations During Checks

During field-level verification, police reported several suspected violations beyond immigration offences, including alleged counterfeit currency-related fraud, cheating and prostitution-related activities.

In one case, officials recovered 250 grams of ganja from a foreign national. Police also said three South Sudanese nationals in Rajendranagar, who had entered India on student visas, tested positive for cannabis during drug screening.

Investigators further found that some foreign nationals whose student visas had expired were allegedly working as translators or intermediaries for foreign patients at hospitals. According to police, some collected translation fees and commissions linked to hospital bills.

In another case, police reported that a Kenyan national who entered India on a tourist visa and overstayed was allegedly involved in prostitution-related activities. Officials also reported finding a foreign national in possession of Alprazolam tablets mixed with cough syrup, allegedly for intoxication.

Police said deportation or removal proceedings for the remaining 37 foreign nationals were continuing in coordination with the authorities concerned.

The police have also advised landlords, hotels, guest houses and service apartment operators to verify the passports and visas of foreign nationals before providing accommodation. They must follow applicable reporting requirements, including submission of Form III/C, and maintain the required records.

Officials clarified that foreign nationals with valid travel documents may stay in India subject to their visa conditions and applicable laws. .The verification drive is expected to continue across the city.
