Hyderabad Police Invoke PD Act Against Habitual Offender
Hyderabad Police | Hyderabad, Jan. 29: The Hyderabad City Police on Thursday invoked the Preventive Detention Act against Mir Akbar Ali, a 32 year old habitual offender, citing repeated involvement in serious criminal activities that threatened public order.
The detention order was issued on the directions of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar.
Police said the accused, a resident of Ganga Nagar Nala in Yakuthpura, had a long criminal history and continued to engage in offences despite earlier detentions.
Mir Akbar Ali, who works as a DCM driver, is a listed rowdy sheeter with 25 criminal cases registered against him.
His record includes charges related to murder, attempt to murder, robbery, offences under the NDPS Act, and violations of the Arms Act.
This marks the third time the Preventive Detention Act has been invoked against him.
He was previously detained twice under the same law, but police stated that the repeated action was necessary due to his continued criminal conduct.
Hyderabad police invoke PD Act on repeat offender
According to police, the Rein Bazar Police recently booked Mir Akbar Ali in three fresh cases.
These include Crime No 21 of 2025 under Sections 118(1), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Crime No 25 of 2025 under the NDPS Act, and Crime No 173 of 2025 under Sections 324(4), 329(4), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 25(1) of the Indian Arms Act.
Police officials said his activities caused fear among the public and disrupted normal life in the Rein Bazar area. They added that ordinary criminal law had failed to deter him from reoffending.
Following execution of the detention order, Mir Akbar Ali was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison. Authorities confirmed that the detention was aimed at preventing further disturbance to public peace.
Inspector Ch Nethaji, Station House Officer of Rein Bazar Police Station, stated that the Hyderabad City Police would continue to take strict action against habitual offenders to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
