Hyderabad Police Probe Fake AI Video Circulated Against Asaduddin Owaisi
Hyderabad Police | Hyderabad, Dec. 6: The Hyderabad police have registered a case after a fake, AI-generated video allegedly portraying AIMIM Supremo and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi surfaced on social media, prompting concerns over misinformation and attempts to incite discord.
The complaint was lodged by Mohammed Irfan Khan, an administrative member of the AIMIM social media team. He alleged that certain social media accounts had circulated fabricated videos with the intent to mislead the public, hurt sentiments, and create disharmony.

Following the complaint, police booked a case under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2008, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Officials said an investigation is underway to identify the creators and disseminators of the manipulated video.
Deepfake Bill in the Lok Sabha
The incident comes at a time when concerns around deepfake misuse are rising nationally. On Friday, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde introduced a Private Member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha titled The Regulation of Deepfake Bill. The proposed legislation seeks to establish a clear legal framework to curb deepfake-related offences.
The Bill mandates prior consent from individuals before their likeness can be used in AI-generated or manipulated content. It further proposes strict penalties for those creating or circulating deepfake material with malicious intent, aiming to safeguard citizens from reputational harm, privacy violations, and exploitation.
As the investigation progresses, Hyderabad police have urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified content, especially videos that may be digitally altered, and to report suspicious material immediately.
