According to the CEO, about 97.37 lakh names were removed from the voter list during the recent process. Earlier, before the Sir process, Tamil Nadu had around 6.41 crore voters. However, after scrutiny and updates, the total now stands at 5.67 crore.

Voter list revision before Assembly elections

Archana Patnaik said that 7.40 lakh new voters aged between 18 and 19 have enrolled this time. She added that the voter list update process will now be conducted every day starting today. This move aims to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls.

She also provided a gender-wise break-up of the electorate. Among the total voters, 2,77,38,925 are male voters. Meanwhile, 2,89,60,838 are female voters. In addition, there are 7,617 third gender voters in the state.

New young voters join electoral rolls

The inclusion of 7.40 lakh first-time voters marks a significant addition to the rolls. These voters fall in the 18 to 19 age group. Therefore, their participation could play an important role in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The revision process reflects the Election Department’s effort to maintain updated and clean voter data. With elections approaching, officials have begun daily updates to the list. As a result, eligible citizens can now ensure their names are correctly entered in the rolls.
