Hyderabad Rain Brings Relief After Week Of Clear Skies

Hyderabad rain brings relief from humidity

Cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal triggers change

Hyderabad Oct 22: After several days of clear skies and warm weather, Hyderabad witnessed a sudden spell of rain on Tuesday afternoon. The showers, which arrived after a bright post-Diwali morning, brought much-needed relief to residents suffering from sticky humidity. Many commuters were caught off guard as intense but short bursts of rainfall swept through various parts of the city.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), South Hasthinapuram in LB Nagar recorded 25 mm of rain, Vanasthalipuram 23 mm, and Bandlaguda 16.8 mm. Other localities such as Miyapur, Mettuguda, Patancheru, and Begumpet also received between 10 mm and 14 mm of rainfall. In Telangana, Nalgonda district recorded the highest rainfall at 38.5 mm, followed by Nagarkurnool with 37.3 mm and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri with 36 mm.

Meteorologists from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the brief spell resulted from a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to intensify and move towards the Tamil Nadu–Andhra Pradesh coast within the next 24 hours. The associated cyclonic circulation, extending up to 7.6 km above sea level, has been drawing in moisture from the sea into inland regions, leading to widespread rain across Telangana.

The IMD forecast partly cloudy conditions for Hyderabad in the coming days, with a chance of light to moderate rain or thundershowers. “Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h are likely in some parts of the city and adjoining districts,” said an official. The maximum temperature may hover near 31°C, while the minimum could remain around 23°C.

Weather blogger T. Balaji warned citizens to be alert for “short but intense bursts of rain,” especially in Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Saroornagar, Chandrayangutta, Rajendranagar, and Khairtabad. A TGDPS official described these as short-duration showers associated with the Bay of Bengal system and advised residents not to panic but to stay cautious about possible waterlogging and strong gusts in low-lying localities.

Meanwhile, the IMD issued heavy rainfall alerts for Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and Wanaparthy districts from October 24 to 26. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in Warangal, Hanamkonda, Siddipet, and Vikarabad over the next few days.
