Hyderabad, July 26: Hyderabad continues to face a significant rainfall shortfall, with the city recording a 40 percent rainfall deficit since the onset of the southwest monsoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places across Telangana over the next few days.
Recent dry weather has also pushed daytime temperatures slightly above normal across the city and adjoining districts.
Hyderabad rainfall deficit remains a concern
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) and IMD, Hyderabad received virtually no rainfall during the 24-hour period ending 8:30 am on Sunday, July 26.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 33.4 degrees Celsius, while Amberpet registered 32.6 degrees Celsius. Among neighbouring districts, Suryapet recorded the highest maximum temperature at 38.3 degrees Celsius.
Since June 1, Hyderabad has received 152.3 mm of rainfall against the seasonal normal of 255.8 mm, resulting in a 40 percent deficit.
The rainfall shortfall is more severe in Medchal-Malkajgiri, which has received 102.6 mm of rainfall against a normal of 251.5 mm, translating into a 59 percent deficit.
Rangareddy and Sangareddy districts have also reported below-normal rainfall, with deficits of 18 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
The IMD Hyderabad Centre has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places across Telangana over the next seven days. Weather officials have advised residents to monitor local forecasts as rainfall activity may vary across districts.
