Hyderabad, Oct. 18: Several schools in Hyderabad have assigned heavy homework to students during the Dasara holidays, leaving children with less time to relax and enjoy their vacation.
The assignments have turned the break into a period of home-based schooling. Parents are also facing additional pressure as they help children complete the work.
Some Hyderabad Schools Cut Dussehra Holidays
According to the School Education Department’s academic calendar, Telangana schools must observe a 13-day Dussehra vacation in 2026. The holidays run from October 10 to October 22, with schools scheduled to reopen on October 23.
However, some schools in Hyderabad reportedly shortened the break to 11 days, declaring holidays from October 11 to October 21.

A parent of a student at a reputed Hyderabad school told the media that excessive holiday homework was affecting children’s vacation. She also raised concerns about schools reducing the prescribed holiday period.
Before the Dasara break, schools across Hyderabad and other Telangana districts conducted the Summative Assessment 1 examinations. Results are expected after the vacation, once the evaluation process is completed.
According to the academic calendar, Summative Assessment 2 examinations for Classes I to IX are scheduled from April 9 to 19. Class X pre-final examinations must conclude before February 28, while SSC board examinations are scheduled for March 2027.
