Hyderabad: A student was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly attempting to cheat in the NEET UG 2026 re examination by hiding a smartphone inside a toilet flush tank at an exam centre in Ragannaguda.
The incident took place at the Zilla Parishad High School examination centre, where the accused, a student from Achampet in Nagarkurnool district, allegedly used the washroom to access the concealed phone during the exam. Police said the device was seized and further investigation is underway.
According to preliminary information, the student reached the centre at around 7 am, several hours before the examination was scheduled to begin at 2 pm. He allegedly hid the smartphone in the ventilator of the school washroom before entering the examination hall with other candidates.

Investigators said the student later placed the phone inside a zip lock cover and concealed it in the flush tank of the washroom. The device reportedly went undetected during checks conducted by examination staff before the student attempted to retrieve it during the exam.
A short while after the test began, the student allegedly sought permission to use the washroom, citing stomach pain. When he failed to return for a prolonged period, invigilators grew suspicious and checked the washroom, where they reportedly found him using the phone to search for answers.
School authorities immediately informed the police and lodged a complaint. The student was taken into custody and the smartphone was seized as evidence. Officials are now examining whether he acted alone or had any outside assistance in planning the cheating attempt.
The case has once again raised concerns over examination security during the NEET re examination, which is already under scrutiny following the cancellation of the earlier test over a paper leak controversy. Authorities are expected to review security protocols at examination centres in light of the latest incident.
