Hyderabad: Tension Erupts Over Temple Land Dispute in Banjara Hills

Hyderabad, July 29: Tensions flared at MLA Colony on Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills after a group of devotees attempted to enter the disputed Ammavaru temple premises to offer ‘bonam’ on Tuesday.

The conflict follows a recent move by the Shaikpet Tahsildar and revenue officials, who reportedly damaged a portion of the temple structure and locked its gate, claiming the land belongs to the government.

On Tuesday afternoon, a large number of people, including women, gathered at the site to offer prayers. Anticipating unrest, the police had already barricaded the area.

Despite the security measures, protestors attempted to breach the barricades and enter the premises. In the process, they damaged a temporary boundary wall made of asbestos sheets.

Police intervened swiftly, preventing further escalation and detaining several individuals involved in the incident. They were later shifted to various police stations.

To maintain law and order, additional police pickets have been stationed at the site.
