The 33-year-old loco pilot from Hyderabad is among a select group of women involved in the prestigious Riyadh Metro project. With a background in metro operations from her previous work in Hyderabad, Eegalapati has spent the past five years training and preparing for her role as a train pilot and station operations master in Riyadh.
“This is a proud moment for me, being part of such a world-class project as an expatriate. Working with the Riyadh Metro has been a rewarding experience,” Eegalapati shared. Her journey with the project began in 2019, alongside two other recruits from India. Shortly after her arrival, however, the COVID-19 pandemic forced initial training to be conducted virtually. Now, with the project nearing its operational phase, Eegalapati has been running trial trains and is eager to transition to full operations.

Eegalapati, originally from Dhullipalla in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district, settled in Hyderabad in 2006. Her career as a loco pilot is a family affair; her younger sister works as a train pilot for the Hyderabad Metro, while her husband is employed in the maintenance department of the Riyadh Metro. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Eegalapati was also deployed to Doha, Qatar, to assist with crowd management, reflecting her versatility and commitment. (Maxim News)
