Hyderabad, June 10: HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Wednesday said trust and credibility remain the foundation of the real estate sector and urged realtors to prioritize consumer interests while conducting business. He also clarified that HYDRA is not responsible for the slowdown in the real estate market.Addressing the Realtors Summit 2026 organized by the Telangana Realtors Forum (TRF) at The Plaza Hotel in Begumpet, Ranganath said real estate transactions should focus on delivering safe and legally sound properties to buyers rather than merely generating commissions or profits.
He emphasized that every realtor carries a responsibility toward customers. He advised realtors to exercise the same level of caution while recommending properties to buyers as they would while purchasing a property for themselves.
“Trust, transparency, quality and accountability are essential for long term success in the real estate sector,” he said.
HYDRA Not Responsible for Market Slowdown
Ranganath rejected claims that HYDRA’s actions had slowed the real estate sector. Instead, he attributed the slowdown to broader economic factors.
He said global and national economic conditions, employment trends, salary growth and investment sentiment influence real estate activity. Therefore, the current slowdown cannot be linked to HYDRA alone.
He pointed out that several cities across India have witnessed a similar trend. Consequently, stakeholders should view the issue in a wider economic context.
Change Necessary for Sustainable Development
The commissioner said the Telangana government established HYDRA to transform Hyderabad into a cleaner, safer and environmentally sustainable city.
He explained that the government empowered HYDRA by bringing together authority from multiple departments. As a result, the agency could address long pending urban challenges more effectively.
Ranganath acknowledged that reforms often create initial difficulties. However, he stressed that meaningful development requires change.
“Without change, there can be no progress,” he said.
HYDRA’s Work Earns Wider Recognition
The commissioner revealed that HYDRA’s initiatives attracted attention during the recent BRICS-related meetings held in Odisha. Representatives from several countries and major cities showed interest in the agency’s functioning.
According to him, participants felt that urban bodies similar to HYDRA could help cities tackle environmental challenges and climate-related risks.
He highlighted HYDRA’s efforts to restore lakes and water bodies. First, the agency removed encroachments. Then, it carried out restoration and development works. As a result, local residents now benefit from improved water bodies and public spaces.
Ranganath cited the example of Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet. Heavy rain recently brought large volumes of floodwater into the lake. In the past, such flooding would have submerged nearby colonies and residential areas. However, restoration efforts helped manage the inflow more effectively.
He also said HYDRA conducted detailed investigations into ownership claims over several water bodies. The agency relied on scientific methods to identify lake boundaries, remove encroachments and undertake restoration works.
Government Land Worth ₹1.10 Lakh Crore Protected
The commissioner said HYDRA protected government land valued at nearly ₹1.10 lakh crore during the past 23 months.
Furthermore, the agency aims to safeguard additional government and public assets worth around ₹1 lakh crore this year.
He stated that HYDRA carried out its operations without harming poor families. At the same time, he alleged that influential encroachers were spreading misinformation against the agency after facing action.
Ranganath said public support for HYDRA has increased as people continue to witness the benefits of its work.
TRF President Praveen Dharam, Vasundhara BuildX Chairman P. Ramesh Babu and several real estate industry representatives attended the summit.
