HYDRA Receives 32 Complaints Over Encroachments On Heritage Water Bodies

Hyderabad: HYDRA received 32 complaints on Monday alleging encroachments on parks, open spaces, water channels, and heritage water bodies across Hyderabad and surrounding districts.

Several residents approached HYDRA Prajavani seeking protection of open wells, lakes, and public spaces. Many complaints highlighted attempts to convert common lands into plots despite official layout records.

Residents from Alwal in Medchal Malkajgiri district raised concern over a 200 year old open well facing encroachment threats. They said the historic Chintabai open well had served drinking water needs for generations. Locals urged authorities to preserve it as a heritage structure.

Officials said complaints were reviewed by HYDRA Additional Commissioner R Sudarshan, who assigned resolution responsibilities to concerned departments.

Complaints flag heritage wells, parks, and lake encroachments

In Venrock Enclave at Alwal, residents alleged that private individuals were trying to occupy the historic open well shown as open space in approved layouts. They demanded immediate action to prevent permanent construction.

In Green Hills Colony under RK Puram division of Rangareddy district, residents complained that parts of a 6,087 square yard open space were already encroached. They requested a land survey and development of a public park as per records.

Residents of Kaushalya Colony near Nizampet Circle alleged that sewage and stormwater drains near a children’s park were illegally diverted. They warned this could obstruct floodwater flow and demanded restoration of original channels.

Another complaint flagged encroachment of nearly 1,000 square yards within the full tank level area of Khajaguda Lake. Petitioners alleged the land was illegally converted into four plots with house numbers and sought immediate protection of the lake boundary.
