Illegal Mobile Phone Manufacturing: IMEI Tampering Unit Busted

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 27 (Maxim News) Police busted a unit involved in illegal manufacturing of mobile phones and International Mobile Equipment identity (IMEI)   tampering. The office was raided. Mobile phones, laptops, mobile spare parts and printed IMEI labels with IMEI tampering software were seized. (IMEI Tampering Unit Busted) Five people were arrested. The incident took place in the national capital Delhi. The Cyber Crime Police received information about suspicious mobile phone activities in the Beadonpura area of Karol Bagh. It was learned that the business of illegal manufacturing of mobile phones and tampering with the special serial number IMEI, which is used to identify and track mobile phones, was going on.

Meanwhile, on November 20, the police raided Aditya Electronics and Accessories, located on the fourth floor of a commercial building in Beadonpura. They seized 1,826 mobile phones, laptops, mobile manufacturing spare parts and printed IMEI labels containing IMEI tampering software. Five accused – Ashok Kumar, Ramnarayan, Dharmendra Kumar, Dipanshu and Deepak – were arrested.

On the other hand, the police have come to know that IMEI tampered mobile phones are being sold to cyber criminals through various channels in Karol Bagh, Gaffar Market, a famous mobile phone market in Delhi-NCR. With this, the police are investigating where and through whom the Chinese spare parts are being brought, and to whom the IMEI tampered mobile phones are being sold. It is hoped that this will help control cyber crimes. (Maxim News)
