Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 11 (Maxim News): India has strongly condemned the latest attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which killed 12 people and injured 309 others.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday called the repeated attacks on the airport and civilian infrastructure “completely unacceptable”. It urged an immediate halt to hostilities and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
In its statement, the MEA offered condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. India also reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and expressed hope for an early return to peace and normalcy.
The latest attack took place on Saturday, October 10, amid escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement. Saudi authorities reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries. Several injured people remain in serious condition.
Riyadh Airport Attack Raises Regional Security Concerns
The casualties included four Saudi citizens and eight foreign residents. They were from Bangladesh, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan, according to Saudi aviation authorities. Airport operations were temporarily suspended for safety checks and damage assessment.
A Saudi-led coalition blamed Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the attack. However, the group had not publicly claimed responsibility for the latest strike, according to reports published on Sunday.
The attack came amid escalating exchanges between the Houthis and Saudi forces. Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported renewed Saudi air and missile strikes across Houthi-held areas in Yemen, including locations near Sanaa and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
Earlier, the Houthis said they had launched missiles and drones towards an Aramco facility in Riyadh. They described the action as retaliation for intensified Saudi strikes on Yemen.
The widening confrontation has raised concerns about civilian safety and the security of critical infrastructure across the region.
India reiterated that attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure must stop immediately. New Delhi also called for peace and stability to return to the region.
