New Delhi,, July 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is emerging as a trusted global defence partner while continuously strengthening its defence capabilities through indigenous technology, defence production and exports.
Addressing the latest edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi paid tribute to the soldiers who fought in the 1999 Kargil War, saying Kargil Vijay Diwas is a reminder of their extraordinary courage and sacrifice despite difficult weather conditions and enemy challenges.
The Prime Minister said India is achieving new milestones in defence manufacturing and exports, adding that the country’s growing capabilities are earning global trust.
Referring to his recent visit to Indonesia, Modi said India signed a major agreement for the BrahMos and Astra missile systems, highlighting the country’s expanding defence cooperation with international partners.
He also said the Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully tested the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket earlier this month. In addition, DRDO recently carried out the successful test of the Kusha missile, reflecting the efforts of Indian scientists and engineers.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s progress in the space sector. He said the successful launch of Vikram 1 last Sunday marked a historic achievement as it became India’s first rocket developed by the private sector.
Modi praised the country’s young innovators for their dedication and technological excellence. He added that achievements such as the Vikram 1 launch and India’s strong performance in international science Olympiads demonstrate the nation’s growing leadership in science, innovation and technology.
