Hyderabad, Oct. 3: Union Health Minister JP Nadda said India is emerging as an important destination for healthcare innovation and advanced surgical technology.
Nadda made the remarks during his virtual address at an international robotic surgery conference organised by the Society of Robotic Surgery. He highlighted India’s strengths in technology, artificial intelligence and digital health.
The minister said India has an opportunity to develop and lead future surgical technologies. He also pointed to the country’s expanding ecosystem of surgical robotics.
Robotic Surgery Procedures Rise Across India
Delhi NCR has emerged as a major centre for robotic surgery in India. The region leads the country in robotic system installations and surgical volumes.
The conference highlighted a sharp rise in robotic assisted procedures. In Delhi NCR, procedures increased from 2,257 in 2021 to 10,937 in 2025.
Nationally, robotic assisted procedures rose from 8,912 in 2021 to 44,857 in 2025. The figures show a significant increase in the use of robotic surgery across the country.
Around 39 hospitals in Delhi NCR have robotic systems. Moreover, 11 hospitals have more than one system. The region has therefore become a major hub for robotic surgery infrastructure in India.
