Hyderabad, Oct. 3: The BJP has questioned the absence of a public response from Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders to Captain Smit Machchhar’s actions during the Flydubai cockpit attack.
Machchhar, an Indian pilot, was seriously injured after his co pilot allegedly attacked him during a Dubai to Tel Aviv flight. Despite his injuries, he opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to intervene.
The aircraft carried 174 passengers. It later landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after the attackers were subdued and backup pilots took control.
The BJP has publicly questioned why Rahul Gandhi and members of the Gandhi family have not issued a statement praising Machchhar. BJP leaders have also raised the issue of the pilot’s religious remarks.
BJP Raises Questions Over Rahul Gandhi Response
During a video call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Machchhar said he recited the Hanuman Chalisa during the crisis. He also spoke about regularly reciting it with his young son.
Modi praised Machchhar’s courage and presence of mind during the conversation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also praised the pilot’s actions.
The BJP has framed the absence of a public response from Rahul Gandhi as a political question. However, the available reports do not establish why Gandhi or other Congress leaders have not publicly commented on the incident.
The UAE has ordered an investigation into the attack, including whether it involved terrorist activity or prior planning. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
