India Forward Goal Of Strength Free Trade Agreement With ASEAN: PM Modi

Kuala Lumpur/Internet/Hyderabad, Oct 27 (Maxim News): As US President Donald Trump continues to impose tariffs on all countries, India is focusing on its ties with ASEAN.  Prime Minister Modi has announced that India is moving forward with a goal of strengthening the free trade agreement with ASEAN. Modi said that India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is becoming a powerful foundation for global stability and progress, even in uncertain times.

Modi addressed the ASEAN summit that began in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, virtually on Sunday.  Modi said that terrorism has become a major threat to global peace and security and there is a need for all to be united to combat it.  Modi also called for an early review of the ASEAN India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA)

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs later released a statement detailing Modi’s speech.  “The AITIGA Agreement came into force 15 years ago.  Now that economic ties between India and ASEAN are strengthened, the people of both countries will benefit immensely.  Regional cooperation will also be strengthened,” the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.

On this occasion, the two sides issued a statement on sustainable tourism, which is a key driver of economic growth for ASEAN and India.  “India is a strong supporter of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) alliance in the Indo-Pacific.  We support the ASEAN-India Plan of Action for the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (206-2030).  Let’s hold the second ASEAN-India Defense Ministers’ Meeting and the second ASEAN-India Naval Exercise soon, “Modi said.

the world’s population  “India and ASEAN countries represent one-fourth of the world’s population.  Not only the population, but we are intertwined with the most historic agreements and bonds of values.  We are moving forward together in the Global south.  Not just trade partners, but cultural partners.  ASEAN is the cornerstone of India’s Act East Policy.  India has always fully supported ASEAZN’s objectives and its stance on the Indo-Pacific.

The India-Asean Comprehensive StrategicPartnership has continued to promote sustainable development even in times of upheaval.  This strong bond is giving a new impetus to sustainable development and progress throughout the world.  Both India and ASEAN are developing stronger mutual cooperation in the fields of education, tourism, science and technology, health, clean energy and cybersecurity.  We will continue to work together to preserve cultural heritage.  We will enhance the good relations between the people of India and ASEAN.  India is committed to working shoulder to shoulder for this.  We will train 400 experts in the field of renewable energy for the ASEAN Power Grid program, said Modi.

Despite the challenges faced internationally, ASEAN countries have been working together on issues like digital inclusive growth, food security, and supply chains, upholding the theme of the ASEAN Summit, ‘Inclusive Sustainability’, India will continue to support ASEAN countries’ priorities and work to keep ASEAN countries united in this way.  India has always extended a helping hand to ASEAN countries in times of need.  India stands by them in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, maritime security, and the development of maritime trade.  We are declaring 2026 as the ‘ASEAN-India Year of maritime Cooperation,” Modi said.  (Maxim News)
