Indian Embassy Issues Travel Advisory Amid Rising Thai-Cambodian Border Tensions

Hyderabad, July 26 (Maxim News): In light of the escalating border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, the Indian Embassy in Thailand has issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid travel to seven conflict-prone provinces. Indian citizens currently residing in or planning to travel through these areas are advised to seek assistance from Thai authorities for safety and guidance.

The advisory specifically mentions the provinces of Trat, Surin, Sisaket, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Ubon Ratchathani, all of which are located near the Thailand-Cambodia border.

Decades-Old Dispute Escalates

The warning comes as tensions rise due to a longstanding territorial dispute over the land surrounding the Ta Muen and Ta Moan Thom temples. While the International Court of Justice (ICJ) previously ruled in favor of Cambodia, Thailand has continued to object to the verdict, leading to periodic flare-ups along the border.

Recently, the situation turned critical after a Cambodian soldier was fatally shot by Thai forces in May, further intensifying the standoff between the two nations. The disputed temples, steeped in historical and cultural significance, remain a flashpoint for both countries, each claiming ownership.

Thai Authorities Acknowledge Ongoing Tensions

Thailand’s interim Prime Minister Phuthhoma Wechachai confirmed that military tensions remain high in the disputed provinces. Thai military presence along the border has reportedly increased, while diplomatic efforts for de-escalation continue in the background.
