Internet, July 12: An Indian crew member is missing after Iran attacked the Cyprus flagged vessel GFS Galaxy in the Strait of Hormuz, officials said.
The attack caused a large fire and crew members abandoned the ship. Ten of the 11 Indian crew escaped, while one remains unaccounted for. India said it launched a search with Omani authorities for the missing sailor.
India condemned the attack and urged deescalation through diplomacy. The ministry called targeting commercial vessels in international sea lanes illegal. It demanded an immediate halt to such attacks and restoration of freedom of navigation.
Iran said the vessel used an unauthorized route and closed the Strait of Hormuz after the incident. The closure followed a series of recent strikes and counter strikes that raised regional tensions.
International agencies continue to monitor developments and verify on ground reports.
