Following the emergency, the specialised mobile ECMO team from King Abdullah Medical City was rushed to the hospital. Doctors fitted the pilgrim with a VA ECMO cardiopulmonary support device to stabilise blood circulation and breathing before shifting him to the Heart Center for advanced treatment.

The hospital said multidisciplinary medical teams, including experts in cardiac intensive care, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, ECMO support, and catheterisation, closely monitored the pilgrim for several days.

As his condition gradually improved, doctors reduced supportive medication and later removed the ECMO device successfully. The patient was also taken off ventilator support after his heart and respiratory functions stabilised.

Authorities confirmed that the pilgrim regained consciousness and responded well to treatment.

As part of the recovery plan, doctors provided the pilgrim with a smart medical watch to monitor his health while he completed Haj rituals. The wearable device allows real time monitoring of heart activity and other vital signs, enabling doctors to respond immediately in case of any emergency.
