Hyderabad: The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to launch in September, with Apple reportedly preparing several major upgrades for its next-generation flagship smartphones.
Apple has not officially announced the launch date or specifications. However, reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could be unveiled between September 7 and 9.
The upcoming launch could also be significant because Apple is reportedly preparing its first foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air are expected to arrive in early 2027.
iPhone 18 Pro expected to get major battery, camera and chip upgrades
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to receive several hardware and design changes. Here are the 10 major upgrades reportedly in development.
1. Bigger batteries
Battery capacity could increase significantly, particularly on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Leaks suggest the eSIM version could feature a battery between 5,425mAh and 5,567mAh.
The larger battery could improve endurance but may also make the Pro Max slightly thicker and heavier.
2. New A20 Pro chip
Apple is expected to introduce the A20 Pro processor with the iPhone 18 Pro models. The chip is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process.
The new architecture could deliver faster performance and improved power efficiency. It may also help with demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing and artificial intelligence.
3. Variable aperture camera
The main 48MP Fusion camera could receive one of the biggest upgrades. Reports suggest Apple may introduce a variable aperture system for the first time on an iPhone.
The technology would allow the lens to control the amount of light entering the camera. This could improve low-light photography, portraits and depth effects.
4. Improved telephoto camera
Apple could also upgrade the Pro models’ telephoto camera. A wider aperture is reportedly being considered to improve low-light photography and zoom performance.
The telephoto camera is expected to remain exclusive to the Pro models.
5. Smaller Dynamic Island
The Dynamic Island could become smaller on the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple is reportedly exploring ways to move some Face ID components beneath the display.
If implemented, the change could reduce the size of the cutout and provide a cleaner front display.
6. More efficient LTPO+ display
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays.
However, Apple could introduce LTPO+ technology. The upgrade may improve power efficiency while maintaining the smooth ProMotion refresh rate.
7. New C2 modem
Apple is reportedly preparing its third-generation in-house C2 modem for the iPhone 18 Pro.
The modem could offer improved 5G performance, stronger connectivity and better power efficiency. Reports have also suggested satellite-based 5G capabilities, although details remain unclear.
8. New N2 wireless chip
The iPhone 18 Pro could also feature Apple’s next-generation N2 wireless chip.
It is expected to succeed the N1 chip used for connectivity features including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Personal Hotspot and AirDrop. The exact improvements offered by the N2 chip remain uncertain.
9. New colours and refined finish
Apple may retain the overall design language of the current Pro models while introducing new colour options.
Rumoured colours include Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray and Silver. Apple could also refine the Ceramic Shield area around MagSafe for a cleaner rear appearance.
10. Simplified Camera Control button
The Camera Control button could also receive a design change. Reports suggest Apple may remove touch sensitivity and haptic feedback.
The button could instead rely more heavily on pressure-based controls.
iPhone 18 Pro expected India price
The iPhone 18 Pro series could be more expensive than the current generation. Reports suggest prices could rise by up to Rs 20,000 in India, while US estimates point to an increase of around $200 to $300.
The iPhone 18 Pro could reportedly start at around Rs 1,54,900 in India. However, Apple has not confirmed the pricing.
With a new processor, larger battery, camera improvements and display changes reportedly in development, the iPhone 18 Pro series could become one of Apple’s most significant flagship upgrades in recent years.
