Hyderabad, Sept. 4: Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro Max at its September 9 event, with reports pointing to a thicker design, an upgraded camera system and a new A20 Pro chip.
Apple has officially confirmed its special “Surprise and shine” event for September 9 at 10:30 pm IST. The company has not yet confirmed the iPhone 18 Pro Max specifications.
Several recent reports suggest the flagship could bring meaningful hardware upgrades while retaining much of the design language of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Expected to Get Camera and Battery Upgrades
The iPhone 18 Pro Max could be slightly thicker than its predecessor. One earlier report puts the device at around 8.8mm, compared with 8.75mm for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, newer leaks have suggested a potentially larger increase, so the final dimensions remain uncertain.
The additional space is reportedly linked to hardware changes, including a larger battery and redesigned camera system.
One of the biggest expected camera upgrades is a variable aperture for the main camera. The technology would allow the lens to adjust the amount of light reaching the sensor depending on shooting conditions.
If introduced, the feature could improve low-light photography and provide greater control over depth of field. Reports differ on whether the variable aperture will be exclusive to the Pro Max or also reach the smaller iPhone 18 Pro.
The Pro Max is also expected to retain a triple 48MP rear camera setup, although other camera specifications remain unconfirmed.

The A20 Pro chip is another major expected upgrade. Reports indicate that Apple could use TSMC’s 2nm process, potentially improving performance and power efficiency.
Battery capacity is also expected to increase, although the exact figure has not been confirmed. A larger battery combined with a more efficient processor could improve everyday endurance.
Another widely reported change involves the Dynamic Island. Apple could reduce its size by moving some Face ID components beneath the display. However, recent leaks suggest the extent of this change remains uncertain.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is therefore expected to focus on camera improvements, better battery life and faster processing rather than a completely new exterior design.
